Hydrolock

Recommended Posts

I have a Hanger 9 Corsair with a .91 Magnum nitro engine on it, and it will start, seems to run ok for a minute or 2 then dies. It is then hydrolocked and I pull the glow plug, drain it, put the plug back in and it will start just fine only to repeat the cycle. The engine sits at a 45 degree angle with the head towards the bottom (not the top), so is the hyrdolock due to the engine mounting position? Or does the fuel tubing need to routed a certain way due to the engine position? I don't think it is running so rich to cause this issue.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Height of the fuel tank relative to the high speed needle?  Ideally the stopper in the tank is inline with the high speed needle.  With the inverted mounting of the engine, the carb may be too low and siphoning extra fuel which floods the engine.

Also, try lengthening the pressure line from the muffler.  Should reduce the overall pressure and pulsing from the exhaust.
